Psychosexual Couples
The treatment programme designed around you involves taking small steps to help you both re-engage and connect with each other.
If you are having issues with the sexual side of your relationship don’t despair or feel embarrassed, we are here to help.
Couples often find it difficult to talk about the intimate part of their relationship with each other. Sometimes there are unresolved, underlying relationship issues around resentment, anger, and disappointment. Therefore, trying to talk about the sexual side of the relationship on their own can become a source of conflict, distress, and sadness. We will ensure we help to resolve underlying relationship issues before we start to work on reconnecting the sexual relationship.
Of course, there are many reasons why the sexual relationship between couples can break down. Apart from relationship issues, it can be caused by illness, medication or personal individual issues.
Some of the issues are listed below
- Lack of desire and libido
- Past unpleasant experiences
- Impotence
- Stress
- Vaginismus
- Illness
- Premature ejaculation
- Change in body image
- Retarded ejaculation
- Sex Addiction
- Not prioritising intimate time
- Addiction to the Internet
- Not communicating your true feelings
- Sexuality
- Boredom
- Trauma in childhood
- Arrival of children
How does it work
Our psychosexual therapists will immediately put you at ease and they will never judge you or your behaviour. The motivation of the psychosexual counsellor is to help you to overcome sexual issues affecting your relationship, they will be very familiar with the issues you bring and will have heard it all before. They will be very focused on helping you to relax.
In the first instance, the psychosexual counsellor will gather information to get an understanding of your sexual history. Then they will design a treatment programme specifically for you. The programme allows for small steps to be taken to help you both re-engage with each other. The counsellor will also set you homework and monitor your responses to the homework.
The Psychosexual Counsellor
Nightingale psychosexual counsellors are highly qualified and experienced. They work with many sexual problems and sexual issues with individuals and couples. The therapists will have trained for at least two years with Relate or Relationship Scotland.
Working with sexual issues with individuals and couples is very specialised work and should only be undertaken by experienced psychosexual counsellors, who are qualified to Diploma Level and beyond.

I would definitely recommend Jenna as a couple’s counsellor and sex therapist. We went to see her when we needed to unravel some problems that had occurred in our relationship that had made our sex life difficult and that we were struggling to sort out ourselves.
Online Counselling
Providing you with the tools you need to take the next step.
Technology is rapidly changing the ways we can interact with each other, and counselling is no exception. This
service can be provided upon request. For the below options you will need broadband/internet connection and
somewhere quiet and private you can speak without being overheard or interrupted. Your Counsellor will agree with
you what happens should the technology fail, but in all other respects the counselling relationship will be the same
as a ‘face to face’ one. The Counsellor will speak to you from a private room …
Phone Counselling
The service will connect you with the counsellor on your mobile phone. Sessions for telephone counselling are between 30 minutes to an hour.
ZOOM Counselling
‘Zoom’ requires you to download the ‘Zoom’ application and set up an account. You will also need a PC, laptop, or smartphone with a webcam.
FACETIME Counselling
To access counselling through ‘FaceTime’ you will need a device with the ‘FaceTime’ App installed (such as an Apple Mac, MacBook, or IPad).
Microsoft Teams
We can also use Microsoft Teams to host appointments. Similar to Zoom, you need to download the Microsoft Teams app to your computer, laptop, or smartphone.
