Intergenerational Mediation
Intergenerational mediation supports constructive communication between all relationships in conflict.
Intergenerational Mediation looks at overcoming family arguments and disagreements. This form of mediation works between the various generations of your family. Family relationships can be challenging at times. The relationships you have with your children, your parents, your in-laws, and your grandparents, are all different.
We often base our sense of identity and self-worth on the strength of the relationships that we have with those closest to us. We are always quick to blame, however, with every relationship dynamic we all need to take responsibility for the part we played in the state of the relationship.
Relationships are a crucial part of our everyday life. Parents, children, in-laws, stepchildren, work colleagues and friends all form part of our relationship network. When these relationships fail, it affects us deeply and creates feelings of anger, frustration, and sadness which causes a shift in the way we relate to ourselves and others around us.
Overcome family arguments and disagreements
The goal of intergenerational mediation is to help family members improve communication, resolve conflict, have a better empathic understanding of each other and their issues and help create healthier relationships. Often family history needs to be discussed and the truth needs to be shared. Resentment from the past can be the cornerstone of the breakdown in family relationships.
We understand the importance of allowing each party to address individual issues, allowing for deeper communication and more efficient conflict management.

What our Mediators aim to do
The aim of the mediator is to ensure.
Both sides have an equal opportunity to have a session on their own
Both start to see the conflict situation more objectively
Ensure joint sessions allows equal space to talk and be heard
Improve communication between the parties
Clear past resentment
Move forward collaboratively without conflict
Agreed boundaries
Nightingale Mediators will not take sides but will ensure both parties have an equal share of time to express their feelings from their perspective. The mediator will also ensure we respect and acknowledge the other’s point of view and show an empathic understanding of the differences. With our help, you can improve your relationships, make conscious choices to change how you relate to others and learn new skills in effective communication and compromise.
The work Angie does in intergenerational mediation is very effective. Florence is confident she will be fair at all times. When you work with Angie it will be very evident she is very experienced and effective in her mediation work. Angie has been a family mediator for over 20 year years and her motivation is to help people to get to a better plan. She is kind and considerate but firm when the situation requires it.
Fees
£75 for an Individual session. Lasts an hour.
£100 for a joint mediation session (both pay £50 each). Lasts an hour.

My daughter and I entered into mediation with Angi because of disharmony in our relationship. We each were treated with respect with clear ground rules laid out at the beginning. I can speak for my daughter, as well as myself that we both were made to feel comfortable, able to feel heard and able to speak with honesty without offending each other. We were each given our space to express ourselves and felt that we were actively listened to by Angie. Within three sessions, our communication skills had vastly improved. We became aware of each others difficulties which led to a greater understanding and less resentment. The way ahead looks promising: my daughter and I now have ‘alerts’ in place that when either of us are feeling stressed we know what to do. I would have no hesitation in recommending Angi as a mediator.
