Family Mediation
Helping separated couples resolve issues that affect them and their children.
Family mediation is an invaluable service that aims to find a middle ground between a separated couple. It’s by working in this middle ground, we can find a way forward for you, your ex, and your children.
Sometimes, when you are going through a ‘messy’ break-up, you just can’t see the woods for the trees. You might feel a high degree of anger, sadness, frustration and hostility towards each other. Tempers may rise, arguments may happen, and you might be very unkind to each other. This won’t only hurt your ex-partner, but it will also break the hearts of their children. Stop! You may have fallen out of love with each other, but I don’t expect you have fallen out of love with you children. They will also be suffering through this horrible situation. Seeing and hearing both of their parents being at loggerheads, unable to find some sort of resolution or middle ground, will be horrible for them.
Usually, the parents at this stage have legally separated or have decided to divorce. Okay, that’s all fine for the adults in the ‘couple relationship’ but hang on – what about the children?

Moving on as co-parents
If you want to ensure your children don’t suffer and are able to grow up without anger, anxiety or even depression, then their emotional self, needs to be protected. Co-parenting effectively means you need to build a different relationship with your ex-partner. A relationship based on mutual respect and compassion for your children.
This is your children’s birth right. When you criticise the other parent, you are attacking half of your children’s gene pool and someone they love. Don’t do it… ever!
If you are struggling to find a resolution to your issues, family mediation can really help.
What to expect from Family Mediation
For mediation to succeed, both parties need to voluntarily agree to attend and work together, with the mediator, on their individual issues raised. You will be given equal time to talk about your issues within a controlled environment, in the presence of an impartial mediator. Initially, individual sessions are required with your mediator before a joint mediation can then go ahead.
In some cases of high conflict (when joint discussion between parties is not an option at that time), ‘shuttle mediation’ can be offered; this is where the mediator goes between parties with issues raised and discusses these separately, so no visible or audible contact occurs between parties.
Nightingale Mediation
Our highly trained and experienced mediator, Angie, will always have your best interests at heart. She is firm, fair, and fab! She’s a lovely person to talk to and you can rest assured that the welfare of your family will be in good hands.

Mediation is a suitable intervention for those needing to have difficult conversations around any disputes and requiring help from an impartial source to improve communication and/or agree on practical working arrangements. These discussions are facilitated by a trained mediator working between the parties in conflict to help find common ground and work towards a solution together.
Online Counselling
Providing you with the tools you need to take the next step.
Technology is rapidly changing the ways we can interact with each other, and counselling is no exception. This
service can be provided upon request. For the below options you will need broadband/internet connection and
somewhere quiet and private you can speak without being overheard or interrupted. Your Counsellor will agree with
you what happens should the technology fail, but in all other respects the counselling relationship will be the same
as a ‘face to face’ one. The Counsellor will speak to you from a private room …
Phone Counselling
The service will connect you with the counsellor on your mobile phone. Sessions for telephone counselling are between 30 minutes to an hour.
ZOOM Counselling
‘Zoom’ requires you to download the ‘Zoom’ application and set up an account. You will also need a PC, laptop, or smartphone with a webcam.
FACETIME Counselling
To access counselling through ‘FaceTime’ you will need a device with the ‘FaceTime’ App installed (such as an Apple Mac, MacBook, or IPad).
Microsoft Teams
We can also use Microsoft Teams to host appointments. Similar to Zoom, you need to download the Microsoft Teams app to your computer, laptop, or smartphone.
