Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy

The process of recovery will go at your pace.

In the first instance, the psychosexual counsellor will gather information to get an understanding of your sexual history.

On some occasions, you will have experienced problems with sex for a long time. Sex therapy may be for an individual or a couple. In both cases, the sex therapist will design a treatment plan to help you to work through the issues.

How does it work

Sex therapy is a combination of therapy and teaching clients different techniques around behaviour and negative thinking patterns. The therapist will design a treatment programme which involves tasks specifically designed for you to work through together, in your own space. The therapist will also set you homework and monitor your responses to the homework.

How many sessions

Generally, we would review after six weekly or two weekly sessions. Together you and your therapist can decide if more sessions are required and if so, how many to complete your treatment programme.

Other sexual problems we can help with:

Addiction to internet porn
Sexual dysfunction
Fetishes
Loss of interest
Erectile dysfunction
Premature ejaculation
Sexuality
Cross dressing
Sexual abuse
Trauma in childhood
Changing sex

The Psychosexual Therapists

Nightingale psychosexual counsellors are highly qualified and experienced sex therapists working with individuals and couples around many sexual problems and sexual issues. The therapists will have trained for at least two years with Relate or Relationship Scotland. They will also be accredited to COSRT the governing body of psychosexual counsellors.

Our psychosexual therapists will immediately put you at your ease they will never judge you or your behaviour. The motivation of the sex therapist is to help you to overcome sexual issues affecting your life and relationships. If you come together as a couple the sex therapist will encourage you to speak to each other about the sexual side of your relationship.

Working with sexual issues and problems including sex addiction individually or as a couple is very specialised work and should only be undertaken by experienced psychosexual counsellors, who are qualified to Diploma Level and beyond. The COSRT accreditation means after two years of training the sex therapists have passed a criterion which allows them to safely practice in working with sexual issues and problems including sex addiction.

My psychosexual counsellor really helped me. Her structured approach combined with a natural easy manner gave me comfort when I needed it the most and helped me stay connected with what was right for me.

Online Counselling

Providing you with the tools you need to take the next step.

Technology is rapidly changing the ways we can interact with each other, and counselling is no exception. This
service can be provided upon request. For the below options you will need broadband/internet connection and
somewhere quiet and private you can speak without being overheard or interrupted. Your Counsellor will agree with
you what happens should the technology fail, but in all other respects the counselling relationship will be the same
as a ‘face to face’ one. The Counsellor will speak to you from a private room …

Phone Counselling

The service will connect you with the counsellor on your mobile phone. Sessions for telephone counselling are between 30 minutes to an hour.

ZOOM Counselling

‘Zoom’ requires you to download the ‘Zoom’ application and set up an account. You will also need a PC, laptop, or smartphone with a webcam.

FACETIME Counselling

To access counselling through ‘FaceTime’ you will need a device with the ‘FaceTime’ App installed (such as an Apple Mac, MacBook, or IPad).

Microsoft Teams

We can also use Microsoft Teams to host appointments. Similar to Zoom, you need to download the Microsoft Teams app to your computer, laptop, or smartphone.
